Housing Market Symposia March 31, 2008

Posted by Reginald Johnson in Business, Housing-Market, Reform.

The American Bar Association’s Section on Real Property, Trust and Estate Law will be conducting a Real Property and Estate Planning Symposia set for May 1-2 at the Fairmont Hotel in the West End neighbourhood of Washington, D.C.  This will marks the symposia’s 19th year.

The ABA believes there has been a need for such an event due to the recent issues in cross-border transactions, the right to physical intimacy in a nursing home, and the current state of the commercial financing market.

The section’s two divisions—Trust and Estate, and Real Property—will hold complementary and parallel lectures, panel discussions and other programs specific to each specialty, which together constitute one of the largest areas of legal practice in the United States.

One of the projected highlights of the symposia will be hearing from Brookings Institution Senior Fellow Anthony Downs during a luncheon on May 2.  Mr. Downs will share his insight on how household wealth is being threatened by the recent declines in home values.  Other variables have also threatened household wealth such as a downward sliding stock market and the devalued availability of credit.

In addition, the Real Property Luncheon will provide an insider’s view of the unique planning issues involved in the creation of National Harbor on Thursday, May 2 at noon. Also that day at noon, recent hot topics in wealth transfer tax developments will be discussed at the Trust and Estate Division Luncheon.

Another highlight will be the session entitled:  Qualified and Non-Qualified Retirement Plans: Pitfalls for the Practitioner Representing the Small Business Owner.  This will be presented on the first day.  And on the second day, check out the session:  Has the Earth Stopped Shaking? The State of the Commercial Financing Markets Since the Subprime Meltdown.

Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love. The real miracle is the love that inspires them. In this sense everything that comes from love is a miracle….
